ALLOY WHEEL REFURBISHMENT
POLISHED ALLOY WHEELS
Polished alloy wheels have more of a mirror finish. They are bare aluminium which is highly polished before a lacquer is applied. This type of finish is not practical for everyday use and corrodes much faster than a painted equivalent as separation of the lacquer happens much quicker.
Mitsiland can polish the outer edges of the alloy wheels removing any signs of kerb damage, however we are unable to warrant the refurbishment due to the speed corrosion can occur. Our advice would be a bespoke paint finish for all extremely corroded polished alloy wheels.
SPLIT RIMS
Split rims are identified by the numerous screws and bolts that run around the inner part of the rims outer edge and they are used to hold the two pieces together. The outer edge is usually polished whilst the centre is colour coated. This wheel type takes longer to refurbish due the time taken to split the two rims.
DIAMOND CUT ALLOYS
Diamond cut alloys are a specific type of polished finish as they are machined on a lathe using a diamond tipped cutting tool. Normally the face of the alloy is diamond cut with the sides of the spokes and backs being a different “coloured” finish. Diamond cut alloys are identified by having the “mirror” finish, but with continuous circular lines running round, much like the way the back of a CD looks. Diamond cut alloys are treated in the same way as polished alloys and in most cases they can be brought back to their original condition. The turnaround time for diamond cut alloys is longer than that of other wheel types and invariably due to the tools needed and the processes required they are more expensive to repair.
